Nantucket Partnership for Children
In 2010, Nantucket New School and Strong Wings Adventure School merged under the umbrella of the Nantucket Partnership for Children—not to absorb one organization into another, but to ensure both could thrive. For years, the two had collaborated informally while maintaining separate operations. The merger formalized this relationship in a way that protected each organization's independence while creating meaningful efficiencies.
Under the leadership of visionary boards, the merger allowed both programs to access a combined six-acre campus with facilities that serve each mission year-round. Strong Wings was able to grow through the use of the New School building as base of operations for van camp. The school grew through the use of the Strong Wings building for pre-kindergarten, and gained access to outdoor facilities and programming expertise that enriched its students' experience. Shared administrative functions—accounting, facilities management, insurance, and governance—reduced overhead costs for both programs, meaning more resources flow directly to children's programming rather than duplicative back-office operations. Together, the partnership ensures both organizations can continue their work more sustainably than if they operated independently.
